August 2016

This month Patrick has been particularly busy performing at a variety of festivals in the UK and abroad as well some education work.

For a week Patrick was performing with the long running British latin and funk based band “The Brasshoppers” at Silda Jazz in Haugesund, Norway.  As well as performing at multiple venues the band also ran a workshop for the local community band and played a concert together during the festival.  The most memorable moment of the week was when the band were invited by “Snarky Puppy” to perform alongside them on their concert.  It was an amazing experience to play with the multiple Grammy award winning artists and we returned the favour when they performed with us on our closing concert for the festival.  We had an extremely fun week playing great music and meeting lots of new friends and hope to go back again in the future.

Patrick also performed for the Association of British Calypsonians for the Calypso Monarch finals as well as the Peoples Choice Awards in the lead up to the Notting Hill Carnival.  These gigs were very enjoyable playing with Calypso artists from the UK as well as special guests from the Caribbean.

At the end of the month Patrick was teaching on the Bournemouth Student Big Band course at Absolute Music in Bournemouth.  There were a number of rehearsals focusing on improvisation, section playing and playing in a variety of musical styles that all lead up to the performance on the final day.  This was a fantastic opportunity to help the students improve in many ways as well as perform some big band arrangements specifically written by Patrick for the course.  The next Bournemouth Student Big Band course will be running again for a couple of days on the 2nd and 3rd of January 2017.
